Opportunity Snapshot

This newly created position offers you the opportunity to make a high profile impact at an organization committed to improving the lives of those affected with cancer by bringing clarity to a complex disease. Your mission -- to oversee the Billing Department's planning, analysis and internal control activities -- will put you in regular contact with our CEO, CFO, Controller, Director of Internal Auditing and other senior executives. This is a critical role in our company, and our steady growth will create opportunities for proven performers. In addition, you'll join an organization of bright and talented people who are passionate about Clarient's vision.

To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have solid experience in financial accounting and analysis roles as well as familiarity with medical billing environments; the ideal candidate will have experience with billing in clinical/pathology lab environments. You also will need expertise in MS Excel and the ability to extract data from a data warehouse; familiarity with SQL, Access and Crystal Reports is a plus. We're looking for a professional who is willing to get "into the trenches" in order to achieve goals, and who can thrive in a fast-paced environment. A CPA and/or experience in public companies is strongly preferred.

Clarient empowers community pathologists with a level of services that used to be available only to those affiliated with large academic institutions, and we are a leader in the industry's transition to both molecular and virtual pathology. Our innovative business model has resulted in 18 quarters of consecutive growth through Q4 2008, and our revenue guidance figures for 2009 ($93 to $98 million) represent a 35% to 42% increase over 2008. We're also delivering positive EBITDA and operating profit.

What Else You'll Bring to the Table

What's in It for You

Taking cancer personally -- at Clarient you'll find a team strongly dedicated to the unique business model that has made us an emerging leader in cancer assessment and characterization. In addition to bringing academic quality tools to community pathologists, we are preparing to launch "game changing" proprietary diagnostic tests. Behind the clinical success is a strong financial picture that is consistently improving, and you'll help us maintain this momentum.

Growth and career opportunities -- we're targeting a market poised for dramatic growth: the $1.4 billion market represented by cancer testing requests sent out by community hospitals and affiliated pathologists, a market that is growing at a rate between 6% and 10% annually. We also expect to grow via acquisitions. As we grow we'll need top talent to step up; for example, while you'll be an independent contributor for now, we may expand this team.

High impact -- we brought the billing function in house less than a year ago, and we're adding this role to ensure it continues to deliver top results. Among your contributions will be helping to develop the Billing Department's annual operating plan, producing analyses and forecasts to support executive decisions, and ensuring strong internal controls.

Great work environment -- we've created a culture that fosters compassion and a commitment to our mission along with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. The pace is fast and there is plenty to be done, and we take a team-based approach to success.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and bonus incentive program, we offer comprehensive benefits that include all you would expect plus some pleasant surprises, such as flexible spending plans, a voluntary legal plan, and more.

More About Your Role

If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.

Reporting to the Director of Billing and Collections, you will join a team that includes a Business Analyst (focusing on IT and systems issues), a Collections Supervisor, and several others. In a nutshell your activities will fall into two areas: While you'll invest a good portion of your time at your computer extracting data, conducting analyses, and preparing reports, this is more than a "head down" role. You will attend meetings -- often with upper management -- on a regular basis and frequently make presentations.

More specifically, your activities will include:

Keys to Success

To excel in this role you will have a sharp eye for details, but also maintain a grasp of the big picture and how those details fit into it. You also will bring a high-energy approach to taking on a broad array of responsibilities, and remain flexible in an environment in which priorities can change quickly.

If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!

Who We Are

At Clarient, we combine innovative diagnostic technologies with world-class pathology expertise to assess and characterize cancer. Our mission is to become the leader in cancer diagnostics by dedicating itself to collaborative relationships with the healthcare community to translate cancer discovery and research into better patient care. Our principal customers include pathologists, oncologists, hospitals and biopharmaceutical companies.

The rise of individualized medicine as the new direction in oncology has created the need for a centralized resource providing leading diagnostic technologies, such as flow cytometry and molecular testing. Clarient is that resource, with a state-of-the-art commercial cancer laboratory providing the most advanced oncology testing and diagnostic services available both onsite and over the web. We are also developing new, proprietary "companion" diagnostic markers for therapeutics in breast, prostate, lung and colon cancers, and leukemia/lymphoma.

We are Taking Cancer Personally.
